Back by popular demand… my closet!

With 96% voting yes, it was definitely time for a closet revisit.  So - as promised… an update to my closet!  Not a lot of changes, but hopefully you’ll enjoy the “up close and personal” review!

My closet is located right off the side of our master bedroom.  My boyfriend’s closet is in the spare bedroom…

And yes, though I wish it was bigger (much envy for Sex & the City closets), it is one of my favorites places in my home.  My boyfriend lovingly put up several of the fabulous racks (yes, the original racks collapsed with all my clothes when we first moved in…), so it reminds me of him as well  :)

Decorating myself in orange

Nothing fancy today, but I did want to show off my colorful fall trench.  I don’t wear a lot of orange, but somehow this combination just seems to work.

I’ve been quite busy lately with work (normal), golf (new & fun!), and (most recently) redecorating!  The change of seasons pushes me not only to update / clean out my wardrobe, but to update / clean out my interior space as well.

In the past, I’ve done a few posts on my closet, however – I’ve still received some requests to post on it again.  I have made just a few updates to my closet, but nothing major.  Do you want to see them? VOTE HERE!

Wardrobe Weekend

After much drama of shoe matching and dress fitting / not fitting (I had to lay off the pastries for a week!), I finally got to wear my weekend-wedding dress.  The wedding venue was lovely, the bride gorgeous, the company fabulous, and the man dashing.  What more could a girl ask for?

The rest of my weekend was spent shopping with my mom, organizing my closet (fall cleaning!), and cooking.  Seriously, I’ve often thought my calling is to be a personal shopper.  If my man turns into a sugar daddy some day and I no longer have to work – then I’ll definitely have to make it happen  :)  either that or I would just stay home, cook and eat all day long watching Frasier, Grey’s Anatomy, and FoodNetwork…

Anywhoo… my mom is a great candidate for trying out my personal shopping skills because I know what her style and lifestyle is, and she trusts me enough to try on everything I pick for her.  Overall – we made out like bandits!  Tons of great sales were going on and it was definitely wardrobe makeover time.

Although the majority of shopping was for my mom, I did find a few items myself including these fabulous Guess heels.  Aren’t they gorgeous?!  I’m in love.

The shopping time inspired me to do some fall cleaning of my closet, so I did my normal semi-annual clean out and ended up with several piles – one clothing pile to give to friends, one for goodwill, one for plato’s closet consignment, and one for alterations.  In addition, I labeled all my shoe boxes with shoe pics so it’s super easy to find what I’m looking for at any time.  How scary is it that I find this activity so much fun?!?

Clothing that lasts

I’ve had this top forever, but haven’t worn it in ages.  Some people swap out their closets all the time, but I’m definitely not one of those people.  True – I add a lot and do swap out things that don’t fit, don’t flatter, or are seriously out of style, but for the most part I really do keep the majority of my wardrobe for numerous years.

Ability to do this depends on a few things -- keeping clothing in good condition, and purchasing items that fit well and are good quality. (I have my trendy, not as quality pieces too, but I don’t expect them to last that long…)

If you do this, then you can continue to make use of older pieces by mixing those clothing items with newer purchases.

Tips for keeping clothing in good condition:

1. Invest in quality hangers
2. Hand wash and dry clean as directed. No cheating!
3. Use gentle quality detergent and oxyclean or bleach for fighting stains.
4. Store clothing in an area that is free of damaging elements such as smoke, dog hair, cat claws, etc…
